4.2 ENVIRONMENT · 2024-2025 ACHIEVEMENTS ULiège is rolling out an ambitious sustainability strategy through the development of its campuses, the improvement of soft mobility, the eco-responsible renovation of its infrastructure and the preservation of biodiversity. These actions are accompanied by concrete initiatives, such as the extension of the Sart Tilman reserve, the installation of organic waste containers and the reconditioning of student computers to extend their lifespan. SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: AN INTEGRATED STRATEGY FOR THE ULIÈGE CAMPUSES A framework document, adopted by the Board of Directors on 19th February 2025, sets out the main guidelines for the sustainable development policy for the campuses. This policy aims to combine resilience, attractiveness, innovation and participation, while strengthening the university's role in society. Each campus will be subject to a specific development plan incorporating concrete guidelines in the areas of urbanisation, mobility, biodiversity, energy and the circular economy. An evolving analysis grid is currently being consolidated in order to systematically evaluate construction and renovation projects according to sustainable criteria, both environmental (energy, use soil, biodiversity, recycled materials, water management, etc.) as well as social (co-construction, social clauses) and economic (overall cost, efficiency) factors. This structuring tool is based on the six environmental objectives of the European DNSH (Do No Significant Harm) framework. It will be activated from the strategic phases of the project and updated through its development. More than just a compliance tool, this grid aims to consolidate a demanding and crosscutting approach to sustainability in all of the University's infrastructure projects.
