The University of Liège is committed to promoting responsible consumption within its community by implementing various initiatives to promote sustainable and ethical practices.

The University of Liège's procurement policy, which is managed by the CESAME cell, takes into account the sustainability component in the implementation of each public call for tenders.

For selective contracts, sustainability clauses are automatically taken into account according to technical and economic possibilities, favoring reuse, reparability and environmental criteria as much as possible. Construction contracts are thus systematically analyzed from this point of view in order to incorporate the most sustainable technical provisions possible right from the planning phase. Large construction contracts are now included in the European DNSH (Do Not Significant Harm) framework.

Sustainable supply pallets are preferred for institutional contracts where possible. For example, all office supplies are available in a more environmentally friendly version and the paper is FSC-certified.

In addition, conditions such as limiting deliveries to reduce the carbon footprint, offers for remanufactured equipment, combating waste and waste generation, using environmentally friendly products, taking back consumables, etc. are integrated into such orders where possible.

As part of the resource rationalization policy, the sharing of equipment in offices and laboratories is encouraged. This approach makes it possible, for example, to limit the number of printers per department and thus avoid the use of individual printers.

Despite the challenge, particularly in the case of very specific supplies, the University is committed to reinforcing this policy through awareness-raising measures and the exclusion of non-compliant suppliers.
