ULiège aims to promote the circular economy through reuse and recycling, improve selective waste collection and reduce the volume of waste it produces.

ULiège promotes reuse and re-employment. The refurbishment and recovery of equipment is encouraged through the creation of Repair cafés at Sart Tilman and in Gembloux, the internal reuse of furniture in good condition or donations to schools or associations, and the provision of book trees.

In terms of recycling, over 20 channels are organized at ULiège, covering a wide range of waste, from residual waste to hazardous waste and waste collected on request (bulky items, wood, metals, etc.). Sorting islands are gradually being installed in all high-traffic areas, and the gradual elimination of individual garbage cans and waste garbage cans in classrooms is planned, taking into account the needs of each department, such as confidentiality. At institutional level, discussions are underway to set up a system for recovering organic waste.

Finally, since the best waste is the waste that doesn't exist, ULiege's sustainable waste management policy places particular emphasis on waste reduction. This includes an institutional policy of sustainable purchasing, as well as initiatives such as the installation of water fountains to encourage the use of water bottles rather than single-use plastic bottles, and the fight against food waste.
