New Charter of Ethics of the University of Liège
Aware of its responsibility to transmit knowledge and produce high-quality research for the benefit of society, ULiège thus reaffirms the key ethical principles to which it adheres.
ULiège promotes equality, diversity and inclusion, ensuring that all members of its community are non-discriminated against and benefit from a welcoming and respectful environment, whatever their gender identity, sexual orientation, origin, ethnic or cultural identity, possible disability, socio-economic condition, or health situation.
The University of Liège has a draft Action Plan for Gender Equality presented by the Gender and Equality Council to the Board of Directors on October 11, 2023 and integrated into the Institution's Strategic Plan. This plan clearly states that gender-based injustices and violence, in all their forms, are neither acceptable nor tolerated within the University. The draft action plan proposes concrete measures divided into five areas: work-life balance, diversity in authority and advisory functions, equality in recruitment and careers, integration of gender and intersectional dimensions in teaching and research, as well as measures to combat violence based on gender or sexual orientation.
ULiège is committed to ensuring equitable access to education and the pursuit of activities for people with disabilities. It implements accessibility measures (such as adapting infrastructures to facilitate mobility or using assistive technologies) and offers personalized support services.
The university recognizes the challenges faced by disadvantaged students and has designed specific support measures. These include financial aid services, student housing assistance and initiatives to combat food insecurity.
Generally speaking, ULiège welcomes researchers and students of foreign origin and helps them adapt to their new environment.
The university is committed to offering specific support to foreign researchers at risk or to migrant students by facilitating their academic and social integration, notably through its institutional university policy of aid to displaced persons and its Université Hospitalière working group. ULiège also raises awareness of the realities of migration within the university community, and raises the profile of its initiatives to welcome and integrate migrants.
Aware of its responsibility to transmit knowledge and produce high-quality research for the benefit of society, ULiège thus reaffirms the key ethical principles to which it adheres.
