On February 19, 2025, the Board of Directors of the University of Liège adopted the Transition Roadmap. This document reaffirms ULiège's commitment to a sustainable and desirable future for all.
In line with its Institutional Strategic Plan, ULiège has adopted a Transition Roadmap. Its purpose is to coordinate and concretize the University of Liège's strategy in terms of sustainability and social and environmental transition. By clarifying orientations, setting priorities and identifying those responsible, it ensures effective monitoring of the actions undertaken.
Supported by ARES, it is the result of a collective process launched in 2023-2024 by the Sustainable Development Institutional Unit, mobilizing the Sustainable Development Scientific Council, ad hoc working groups, existing commissions and administrative and technical departments. All stakeholders were consulted in order to combine scientific expertise with a hands-on approach.
The Transition Roadmap has two aims:
- To enhance the value and visibility of initiatives already included in the Institutional Strategic Plan and in sectoral policies, by acting as an aggregator.
- Stimulate new projects in line with institutional priorities, by acting as a catalyst for action.
The Roadmap comprises 5 axes: the first three integrate the transition in our university missions (research, teaching, community service), while the last two concern our internal organization. These strategic axes are broken down into 12 objectives, 21 sub-objectives and 165 concrete actions.
The Roadmap is also accompanied by eight flagship projects, which will be carried out as a priority in the current year: the creation of a Transitions Laboratory, the evolution of the "Sustainability and Transitions" online course, support for the culture of sustainability at ULiège, the development of future scenarios for sustainable canteens, the circularity of university equipment, the integration of sustainability into travel policy, the development of sustainable campuses, the governance of Transition at ULiège.

Implementation of the University's Transition Roadmap will be accompanied by monitoring to ensure that the objectives set are achieved progressively and measurably. The annual Sustainability & Transition Report will be a key tool for sharing the progress, successes and challenges of this Roadmap.
