TRAINING FOR TRANSITION: A NEW CROSSDISCIPLINARY COURSE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF LIÈGE In a world facing systemic environmental, social and economic upheaval, the University of Liège has strongly affirmed its educational commitment to transition. Since the start of the 2024–25 academic year, a new compulsory cross-disciplinary course, worth 2 ECTS credits and entitled "Sustainability and Transition”, has been included in the curriculum of all undergraduate students. The course consists of two complementary parts. The first part, which is common to all faculties and worth one ECTS credit, provides a comprehensive understanding of current issues through a cross-disciplinary approach which is accessible to all, regardless of the student's original discipline. This first credit is presented in the form of a SPOC (Small Private Online Course). It is accessible via the eCampus platform. The second part of the course, also worth one ECTS credit, is organised by each faculty for its own students and aims to link the content to their specific discipline. It allows students to explore solutions applicable to their field of study in greater depth. This approach aims to foster concrete engagement, sometimes in connection with university or societal initiatives. A SPOC designed to introduce complexity The first credit is designed as an introductory, popularised and multidisciplinary course. It is organised around three interconnected modules: 1. Environmental and social findings: assessment of the state of the Earth system (climate, biodiversity, soils, oceans, etc.) and the human system (inequalities, health, economy, governance, etc.). 2. Systemic causes: analysis of the root causes of current upheavals (human-nature relationship, dominant narratives, economic model, consumption, urbanisation, governance), with a cross-cutting focus on the food system. 3.
