WELCOMING AND INTEGRATING: ULIÈGE CONTINUES ITS SUPPORT FOR EXILED RESEARCHERS Since 2022, ULiège has adopted the declaration of principles "ULiège, Université Hospitalière" (ULiège, Hospitable University), affirming its commitment to welcoming and integrating students and researchers in exile. A working group, chaired by Pierre Duysinx, ViceRector for Mobility and International Affairs, was set up to implement this initiative. In 2025, this working group became a commission, ensuring the sustainability of this initiative and the legitimacy of the resources allocated to it. This year, two postdoctoral fellowships (including one with the University of Lorraine via the PAUSE programme) and one doctoral fellowship were awarded, enabling the university to welcome a doctoral student and two lecturers from Gaza. One of them is currently a postdoctoral researcher at ULB and visited ULiège in July; an application for family reunification is pending, accompanied by a scholarship reserved for his doctoral student wife. Université Hospitalière (universitehospitaliere@uliege.be) FIND OUT MORE STUDENT WELL-BEING, INCLUSION AND SOLIDARITY The institution is stepping up its social and health support measures for students. A communication campaign has been launched to increase the visibility of the Student Social Service (SSE) and reach the most vulnerable groups. A centralised IT tool is being developed to facilitate access to social assistance, and food vouchers have been digitised to address precariousness while limiting waste. A pilot project has been launched to provide free sanitary protection. Health initiatives are also being carried out, such as free STI screening clinics and activities as part of Mental Health Month. The University also offers citizenship workshops, European First Aid Certificate training, awareness-raising competitions (e.g. No Smoking Day) and encourages blood donations. These actions aim to promote the overall well-being of students, combat inequality and promote active citizenship and solidarity within the university community. Service Social des Affaires Étudiantes (service.social.etudiants@uliege.be) RECOGNITION OF STUDENT-CARER STATUS The status of "young carer" has been recognised at the University of Liège since May 2025. This role is generally performed to the detriment of young people's education due to the many responsibilities and constraints it entails. From September 2025, the status of "young carer at ULiège" will be granted to any student who provides ongoing and regular support to a relative recognised as being in a situation of high dependency (due to illness, disability, etc.), provided that this situation is recognised by the mutual insurance company.
