LIEGE CREATIVE AT THE SERVICE OF THE TRANSITION The programme for Forum Liège Creative’s 13th season highlighted a number of developments in favour of a successful ecological and social transition. This theme has become increasingly important over the years, in line with the concerns expressed by the programming committees and the orientation of a large body of research towards meeting today’ challenges. In all, some thirty conference meetings were held in 2023-24 on topics related to sustainable development, in all fields: food, energy, health, construction, the water sector, urban planning, mobility, the economy, etc. For each of the subjects raised, the point of view of a researcher was systematically put into perspective with the practices of a player in the field to decompartmentalise approaches and stimulate synergies around these essential challenges, whether technological or societal. We should also mention the organisation of a 2tonnes workshop, a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Fresco workshop, as well as a Test&Value collective intelligence workshop (which enables researchers to confront their entrepreneurial projects with a relevant target audience) dedicated to a new digital sustainability management tool for SMEs. Liège Creative has always been driven by a logic of partnership, and throughout the season it joined forces with a number of players from ULiège and the surrounding area who are committed to the transition process. Of the 47 conference meetings (including 3 workshops) organised this season, 30 dealt with themes related to sustainable development. These 30 events attracted 1,409 participants and involved 90 speakers, including 33 from ULiège. RÊVONS LIÈGE 2030 DRAWS TO A CLOSE The «Rêvons Liège 2030» project, run jointly by the Théâtre de Liège and the University of Liège, aims to develop new narratives in favour of a resilient society by drawing on the diversity and interaction of its components to co-construct, with all the stakeholders (academic and entrepreneurial world, associative and artistic circles, citizens), the vision of a sustainable and desirable future in Liège in 2030. An inspiring example of collaboration between the arts and sciences, it shows that imagination and co-creation are powerful tools for meeting the challenges of climate change and ecological transition. Since its launch, the project has brought together more than 600 participants at around ten events. The evenings combine two moments: an inspiring sharing by artists and experts on the challenges of the theme being addressed, followed by a breakdown into collective dream workshops where participants exchange, in small groups, on a new, decompartmentalised way of building an ideal city in 2030 through poetic and innovative stories. The last Rêvons Liège assembly was held in June 2024. The team has since devoted time to analysing the ideas, projects and utopias for the final project manifesto, presented on 16th December 2024 at the final celebratory evening at the Théâtre de Liège. LUXEMBOURG CREATIVE LOW-TECH HACKATHON In collaboration with the two Hautes Écoles of the Province of Luxembourg (Henallux and Hers), ULiège Campus d’Arlon and its LUXEMBOURG CREATIVE forum organised a 27-hour hackathon at the end of April 2024. In partnership with the town of Arlon, the aim of this challenge was to get participants to rethink the citizen space of the urban site known as the ‘Milan block’ using a low-tech approach, while re-thinking the space to make it more resilient. To launch the event, LUXEMBOURG CREATIVE organised a conference, open to the citizens of the province, hosted by Professor Jean-Pierre Raskin of the École Polytechnique de Louvain and Clément Gaillard (author of L’anthologie des Low Tech), entitled «Du techno solutionnisme à la techno sagesse, la Low Tech comme un pont entre deux mondes» («From techno solutionism to techno wisdom, Low Tech as a bridge between two worlds»). Taking advantage of the presence of Clément Gaillard, doctor, urban planner and bioclimatic designer, a B2B event was organised the following day for professionals working in the construction industry (urban planners, architects, designers, builders, etc.).
