BIODIVERSITY: FINALISATION OF THE STUDY OF ECOLOGICAL CORRIDORS AT SART TILMAN ULiège’s Real Estate Administration (Administration des Ressources Immobilières (ARI)) is working with the Nature and Forests Department to manage the green heritage of the Sart Tilman campus. A study of ecological connections has been suggested to improve the campus development plan. This mapping of biodiversity zones and ecological corridors will enable the ARI to redirect the land use plan by protecting and restoring these areas, including through ecological compensation. The study, conducted by Professors Grégory Mahy and Marc Dufrêne of the Faculty of Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech, includes habitat mapping and inventories of key species. Luc.Schmitz@uliege.be MORE INFORMATION FOOD: INCREASE THE PROPORTION OF LOCAL, SEASONAL FOOD AND RAISE AWARENESS ULiège attaches great importance to healthy, sustainable and affordable food for its students and staff. Since 2022, it has also been a member of the Liège Métropole Food Policy Council (CPA), co-sponsored by the CATL and Liège Métropole (Conférence des Bourgmestres de l’Arrondissement de Liège), which aims to intensify the transition to a resilient, sustainable and inclusive food system in the city and to facilitate exchanges and coordination between sustainable food stakeholders. Concrete actions are being put in place, such as sourcing local, seasonal and organic produce, greening meals, reducing disposable packaging and combating waste through ‘flash sales’. Over €1,000,000 is invested annually to ensure affordable prices. Awareness campaigns, in collaboration with partners such as the Nourrir Liège Festival, encourage sustainable food choices. A working group bringing together the Fédé and experts is discussing how to improve supply and raise awareness through a variety of initiatives. At the first meeting, Christian Jonet from Ceinture Alimen-Terre Liégeoise (CATL) discussed the agricultural and environmental challenges of intensive food production.
