4.3 FUTURE PROJECTS ENVIRONMENT In terms of reducing the environmental impact of its activities, ULiège plans to raise its ambitions in terms of low-emission mobility internationally, to continue the energy renovation of its buildings, to co-manage green spaces with local communities, to improve its waste management, to further encourage active daily mobility and to continue its efforts in terms of a sustainable food policy. FOOD: SUSTAINABLE CANTEENS ULiège’s university canteens are aiming for the Walloon Region’s ‘Sustainable Canteen’ Green Deal certification (1 radish in 2025, 2 radishes in 2027). To achieve this, they intend to intensify the actions they have put in place to promote more local, healthier and environmentallyfriendly food, while combating food waste. CONSTRUCTION AND RENOVATION OF 100 QUALITY STUDENT ACCOMMODATION UNITS FOR GEMBLOUX AGRO-BIO TECH At the end of 2023, the Walloon Government granted €5.86 million to build and renovate 100 public student accommodation units on the Gembloux campus. Work is due to start in early 2026 and be completed in summer 2028. The project will increase the capacity of the campus from 123 to 145 low-cost accommodation units, some of which will be accessible to people with reduced mobility. This initiative will give the student community access to more quality accommodation at affordable prices, while complying with the highest environmental standards.
