20 SUSTAINABLE INITIATIVES AWARDED BY ULIÈGE: THE UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY IN ACTION FOR ECOLOGICAL AND SOLIDARITY-BASED TRANSITION Every year, ULiège supports sustainable projects through its internal Sustainable Campus calls for proposals, which are open to students and staff members. In October 2024 and June 2025, 20 initiatives were funded for their commitment to ecological, social and solidarity-based transition. Among the winning projects in October 2024 were eco-grazing at the Streupas Heath, the restoration of an experimental apiary, the installation of bat nesting boxes and the Printemps 2075 festival, imagining a sustainable future inspired by SolarPunk. Other innovative actions include reusable gowns for veterinarians, migration to Linux to combat IT obsolescence, and educational activities based on the Wagyl workshop and the serious game "Ethical Dilemmas". Projects involving mapping the commons and landscaping have also been launched. In June 2025, the focus is on low-tech technologies (clay ventilation, desert fridges, bio-based furniture, insulating mycelium), sensitive pedagogy (scientific illustration, participatory research) and solidarity (shared vegetable gardens, health equality, student mutual aid with Bac2gether). These projects illustrate the creativity and commitment of the university community to a concrete sustainable transition.
