TOWARDS DIGITAL RESPONSIBILITY ULiège has set up responsible digital governance under the leadership of the Rector’s advisor for Digital Sobriety. Since signing the Responsible Digital Charter in 2022 and becoming an institutional member of the Institute of Sustainable Information Technology (ISIT), the Responsible Digital Steering Committee has defined principles for a sober, ethical and inclusive digital environment. The projects include a public procurement contract for material refurbishment, a guide to good practice, ISIT training, the monitoring of indicators and the management of IT equipment with an internal circuit for monitoring the lifecycle of this equipment. This extends the lifespan of the equipment, makes it accessible to everyone and creates jobs for students via a user helpdesk. numerique.responsable@uliege.be FINANCE: UPDATING THE FINANCIAL INVESTMENT POLICY WITH REGARD TO SUSTAINABILITY In 2017, the University of Liège made a commitment to gradually reduce its investments in fossil fuels by ceasing to invest in sectors such as oil, coal and natural gas. This decision marked a key step towards an energy transition and more responsible financial management. In 2023, the university strengthened this approach by adopting a portfolio analysis tool based on ESG (environmental, social and governance) criteria. This tool makes it possible to more precisely monitor the composition and performance of investments according to these criteria. Based on these analyses, ULiège updated its financial policy in 2024, setting even more ethical and ambitious investment objectives for the future. MORE INFORMATION REDUCING WASTE ULiège is focusing on reducing waste through sustainable purchasing and strengthening the Zero Waste dynamic, particularly in the food sector. The promotion of reuse is encouraged through mechanisms such as donation sites, the reuse of furniture and the Repair café at Sart Tilman (a Repair café is also being set up at Gembloux). To facilitate recycling, sorting islands are gradually being installed on the various campuses. For example, in 2024, the 20-Août buildings were fully equipped for recycling and organic waste collection is starting to be organised in the university restaurants, such as at B62. Pilot experiments are also being carried out in certain faculties or laboratories before being extended to the whole community.
