A major butterfly inventory campaign kicks off in June on the Sart Tilman site!
In as part of an ecological network study being carried out by the University of Liège, users of the Sart Tilman site are invited to register on the inaturalist platform to encode their butterfly observations. With 51% of species threatened in Wallonia, butterflies are good indicators of the quality of natural environments. It is therefore important to collect as much data as possible on their presence.
You can also find the project in the "community" tab (selectr "projects" then searchr the project using the search bar provided).
Now all you have to do is take a photo and encode any butterflies you come across on and around the Sart Tilman campus!
The ecological network study project
TheBiodiversity and Landscape Unit of the Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech Faculty has been asked by the Administration des Ressources Immobilières of the Université de Liège to analyze the ecological network of the Sart Tilman site. The aim is to complete the campus development plan, taking into account a key environmental component: ecological connectivity.Over several months, field inventories of the site's flora and fauna will be carried out to identify the presence of threatened and protected species. The habitat and reproduction zones of the Sart Tilman fauna and flora will be mapped, and the connections between these zones identified.
The results of this study are expected in early 2024. They will be cross-referenced with urban planning data and the site development plan. They will also make it possible to identify the areas to be restored and the areas to be created in order to conserve and improve the natural ecological network of the Liège region, specifying the role of the Sart Tilman campus.
